First Prize In A Wedding Contest

Earlier in the month I was very lucky to have placed among the finalists in the Instructables “Wedding” contest!  Judging finished on the 4th of July and to my pleasant surprise I came joint first with two other creators!

Instructables.com is a fantastic website where a community of makers and creators upload DIY tutorials for others to learn from.  You can find everything from great recipes to wood working plans and I have spent many a rainy afternoon scrolling through the website for cool projects to try.

Every month Instructables host a number of competitions which anyone can enter and they always give away bundles of rad prizes!  The brief for the Wedding contest was simple: craft something for your big day.

I entered my tutorial on How To Make A Metal Ring With A Wood Inlay.  Rings are a big part of weddings so I knew it would fit the brief perfectly.  This simple wood lathe project is easy to follow and a great skill builder.

I was far from expecting to win a prize so when I received an email saying that I was a finalist I excitedly clicked through to the competition page and saw that I’d placed joint first!  The prize was a swanky Garmin Forerunner GPS watch which I will be using to me train for an obstacle course run later in the year!

A big congratulations is due to all of the other prize winners as there were some awesome projects in the competition! To see the other entrants click the link below and head over to the competition page on Instructables!
